South Africa's embattled power utility, Eskom, has announced that they will suspend load shedding from Saturday morning until Tuesday morning. This decision comes after the successful implementation of stage 2 power cuts from 4pm on Friday until 5am on Saturday.
Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, revealed this move was attributed to sustained improvement in generation availability as well as an expected decrease in demand as South Africans enjoy a long weekend. Highlighting the utility's proactive stance, she said, "During the long weekend, Eskom will address minor defects on some generating units by performing planned maintenance. Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes to load-shedding should it be required.”
This suspension offers a brief respite from the forced power cuts South Africans have grown accustomed to, delivering vital downtime for the power utility to address minor system defects and implement essential preventative maintenance.
