AmaBhungane, an independent, non-profit newsroom known for its development of investigative journalism is currently seeking an experienced editorial coordinator/quality controller/rewrite artist. This newsroom has built a reputation for producing stories that not only advance journalism methods and standards but also highlight wrongdoings and hold power to account. They also assist other journalistic efforts through editorial collaboration and training.



This respected newsroom is based in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town, but for this position, the successful applicant will be based in Johannesburg, reporting directly to the managing partners. The incumbent will work closely with investigators, digital coordinators and managing partners to ensure the delivery of accessible, accurate, and fair content.


The purpose of this post is to coach investigators on content structure during conceptualisation and writing, evaluating and improving content, and facilitating editorial collaboration. The prime goal is to continue developing investigative journalism best practice via accurate and fair stories.



The selected candidate must be a seasoned investigative journalist or have extensive behind-the-byline experience, boasting strong analytical and writing skills. They should also be a self-motivated individual with significant project management skills. Additional attributes that would be considered a plus are editorial experience at a senior level, knowledge of the Southern African political economy and international media landscape, and internet, social media and data savvy.
