The Western Cape Department of Social Development has announced a two-week extension for non-profit organisations (NPOs) seeking funding for social welfare and community development services. The eligible organizations now have an extended deadline of 4pm on Friday, 29 September 2023, to submit their well-equipped funding proposals.

The department insists that all applications must meet the specific criteria outlined by the various departmental programs. To streamline the application process, NPOs have been given three distinct submission options: an online application portal, submitting via email, or directly submitting applications to the department's head office.

When applying, the NPOs will be required to use a standardized application form and aggregate every necessary documentation pertaining to the application. Once submitted, all proposals will be subjected to a meticulous examination process. The applicants will then be contacted with the outcomes of the assessment. The department has given assurance that the organizations with successful proposals can expect the commencement of their funding from 1 April 2024.

However, the department has established specific limitations within the programme. For instance, programme specifications for older persons do not cover residential, independent, or assisted living facilities, whereas the programme specifications for persons with disabilities exclude residential facilities and protective workshops.

To address these exclusions, there will be a separate call for proposals specifically targeting residential, independent, and assisted living facilities for older persons, as well as residential facilities and protective workshops for persons with disabilities, expected in the latter half of 2024.

Organisations are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the detailed programme specifications, application forms, guidelines and frequently asked questions, which are accessible online. For further inquiries, the department can be contacted directly through their helpline, 0800 220 250.
