In a groundbreaking initiative towards sustainable energy and empowerment, the Soweto Solar Upliftment Initiative (SOUL) organized a workshop aimed at equipping the community with knowledge and technical skills in handling solar technologies. This move comes as an innovative approach to tackling high levels of unemployment and energy crisis prevalent within the community.

The workshop attracted over 500 participants, most of whom were local artisans looking to lead a shift towards renewable energy as a reliable means of power supply. In South Africa, where around 30% of the population lives without electricity, this initiative represents a significant stride toward sustainable development.

The program seeks to leverage the prowess of local artisans to carve a niche in the booming solar industry by enabling them to manufacture, install and maintain solar energy systems. Through the practical knowledge imparted, the artisans earn a valuable skill and a potential source of income.

SOUL's drive to provide sustainable and affordable power is fully in line with one of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

The success of the workshop signals a positive step forward for the climate, the community, and the country. Local artisans can now take this newfound knowledge and translate it into tangible action to benefit themselves and their community.
