Former secretary general of ANC, Ace Magashule, has taken the political sphere by storm after he announced the formation of his new political party, the African Congress for Transformation (ACT). This development comes three months after Magashule's expulsion from ANC, placing an elaborate highlight on his political career.

At a press conference on Vilakazi Street, Soweto, where notable figures like Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela once resided, Magashule unfolded his vision for ACT as a 'people's party.' Emphasizing on the party's commitment towards its countrymen, he announced that the party would serve as a custodian of the goals and aspirations of South Africans.

ACT extends an invitation to several former ANC members, including the contentious previous Hawks boss, Berning Ntlemeza. The key areas of interest for the party include addressing crime, unemployment, poverty, abuse against women, discrimination, and several other pressing issues.

Magashule's expulsion from ANC in June followed his unilateral decision in 2021 to suspend Cyril Ramaphosa, an act against the party's policies. Post this incidence, rumors led to speculations about Magashule launching his party for the 2024 national elections.

The essence of ACT, as Magashule envisions, is to provide refuge to the 'weary and politically abused.' Inviting a diversity of people from various political backgrounds, the party aims to cater to the collective betrayals and the political fatigue endured by South Africans.

On a final note, the former ANC member insisted that the ACT is not merely a party of leaders but a collaborative group of community leaders and activists. This comes amidst Magashule's ongoing criminal charges related to a questionable tender resulted from his tenure in the province.
