Fikile Mbalula, African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General, has lashed out at former ANC member Ace Magashule after the launch of Magashule's new political party, the African Congress for Transformation (ACT). This comes after Magashule's dismissal from the ANC, attributed to his ill-discipline within the party.

Mbalula made his remarks during an address at a National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) gathering in Johannesburg, shortly after Magashule unveiled the ACT in Soweto, also in Johannesburg. Magashule presented his party with enthusiasm, stating that the ACT will have a nationwide presence and has already secured strong support in the Free State province.

Magashule, referring to the ACT as the 'people's party', asserted that his party aims to implement various resolutions that have been overlooked by the ANC, which includes nationalisation and the establishment of state-owned banks.

AGC’s Secretary-General furtherated that ANC's internal renewal process has cleansed the party of figures like Magashule, which he considers beneficial to the ANC. Mbalula likened the process to the sea, suggesting a gradual but effective purging of undesired elements. Mbalulu expressed the ANC's relief over Magashule's exit and implied that their departure has left room for dedicated members to sustain and defend 'the revolution'.

Mbalula also took the opportunity to dismiss suggestions that the ACT and the Economic Freedom Front (EFF), led by Julius Malema, are breakaway factions of the ANC. He emphasised that both Magashule and Malema were officially expelled from the ANC.
