Brutal Valentine's Day Murder in Western Cape: Mother and Daughter's Killer Sentenced to Life Imprisonment

A horrifying Valentine's Day murder in Melkhoutfontein near Still Bay in the Hessequa area of Western Cape consequence in lifetime imprisonment for the guilty, Westville Carelse, age 33. Riversdale Magistrate’s Court announced the verdict for the ruthless murder of Annemique Manho and her two-year-old daughter, Almique.



The murders, which occurred on February 14, 2022, were revealed when the deceased's husband and father of Almique came home with his son, finding their home inaccessible. The discovery of the bodies shocked the tight-knit community, as Annemique's disfigured body lay on the kitchen floor and Almique lay lifeless, drowned in the bath.


Swiftly after the report, the Southern Cape policy deployed an expert investigation and prosecution team led by Sergeant Christopher Spies. The investigation reached fruition on February 15, 2022, the day after the murders, when the team captured Carelse. The evidence found, linking Carelse to the crime, included stolen items from the crime scene.



The law took swift action and, earlier this month, found Carelse guilty on multiple charges, including two counts of murder, theft, and burglary. Sergeat Spies confirmed the sentence as life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for the second murder count, and three years each for housebreaking and theft.


The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, praised the courtroom for their diligence in ensuring the perpetrator's lengthy imprisonment, offering a small comfort to a wounded community.
